First off, let’s start by saying that we appreciate your enthusiasm coming out to protest today. It’s a good first step. Protest is a great way to show our frustration with the current system, and a good way to blow off some steam. Unfortunately, symbolic activism only gets us so far. Instead, we’d like to invite you to get involved in local politics on a deeper level, if you are able to. We are past the days of showing up to vote, and small peaceful protests being enough. The Democratic Party has failed to listen to their base time and time again, and the only way that we have any real opportunity to beat back the opposition is to start anew. We have to grab the levers of power at every level of government, and create a new party free from billionaires and a few party elites. The only way to do this is to show up, often and in overwhelming numbers. The powers of both parties count on you not doing this. If you want to help build a coalition that is made of working class people for working class people we invite you to get involved with any of the organizations below.

The La Crosse Dems have a monthly meeting open to the public. This is the local party ready to be reshaped. There is impetus, and an existing coalition that is eager for change coming off the latest local wins by progressive candidates. Come join that coalition, and move the party to focusing on building working class power in the Coulee region.

Coulee Region Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a political and activist organization that cares deeply about our region and the people in it. They are an excellent place to start for those curious about leftist organizations and how they differ from a mainstream political party.

A smaller org than LAX, but full of inviting people interested in filling out their membership. The bright side being that you can have a larger impact in a smaller organization!
